Collaboration with artist Louise Haugaard Jørgensen and Bornholms Museum.

For this project, Louise Haugaard Jørgensen and I helped 2 6th grade classes from Søndermarkskolen in Rønne make a series of audio collages.

Our focus was to work with sound as a material that contains information the context we’re in. On Bornholm, there used to be more noises coming from quarries and from fishing, but due to these industries changing and moving they’re no longer as big a part of the soundscape. Other sounds feel more present – like sounds from electronic gadgets in the streets.

During the project, we went on field recording trips to an active quarry and to the factory Marel, which makes high tech food industry machines. Photographs from our excursion are shown here on this page.

At the end of the project, the finished audio collages were exhibited on Bornholms Museum in a number of listening station like the one shown at the bottom of this page.

What is a “huskunstnerprojekt” (= “resident artist project”)?

It’s an art project that’s partially funded by Statens Kunstfond/The Danish Arts Foundation through an initiative called “huskunstnerordningen” (=”the resident artist arrangement”). The point of this initiative is (loosely translated from the official website): To give children and teenagers in the age of 0-19 an understanding and experience in artistic processes through a meeting with a professional, active artist.
